Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must fulfill the following eligibility conditions:
- Citizenship: Must be an Indian citizen as per Articles 5 & 6 of the Constitution of India.
- Educational Qualification: Must hold a Degree in Law from a recognized university.
- Experience: Must be a practicing advocate in Civil and Criminal courts with minimum 7 years of continuous practice as on the last date of application.
- Practice Requirement: Must be a practicing advocate even at the time of appointment (as per Supreme Court judgment in Dheeraj Mor vs High Court of Delhi).
Age Limit
- Unreserved: 35 to 45 years
- SC/ST (P)/SC/ST (H): 35 to 48 years
- PwBD (Locomotor Disability): Upper age limit relaxable by 10 years

- SC/ST: Rs. 500/-
- Others: Rs. 1000/-
- PwBD: Exempted (No Fee)

Selection Process
The selection for Assam Judicial Service Grade-I will be conducted in three stages:
1. Preliminary Examination (Screening Test)
- Objective type OMR based test
- 100 Marks | Duration: 2 Hours
- Minimum qualifying marks: 60%
- Candidates will be shortlisted in 1:10 ratio
2. Main Written Examination
- 4 Papers (Descriptive Type)
- Paper-I: General Knowledge, English, Law & Essay Writing
- Paper-II: Law (CPC, CrPC, IPC, Evidence, BNS, BNSS, etc.)
- Paper-III: Judgment Writing, Jurisprudence, Constitution
- Paper-IV: Official Language (Assamese) – Qualifying Only
- Minimum 60% aggregate required (with 45% in Papers I–III)
3. Viva Voce/Interview
- 50 Marks
- Minimum 60% marks required
- Final merit will be prepared on the basis of Main Exam + Interview
